JONES ANNOUNCES NEW RMV REMINDER SERVICE

10.15.09  |  Contact: Sarah Scalese, 617-722-2100

BOSTON—House Minority Leader Bradley H. Jones, Jr. today announced a new Registry of Motor Vehicles reminder service he hopes his district’s drivers will utilize.

The new notification program, recently launched by the RMV, will remind residents via email, telephone or text message to renew their driver’s license.

“I am pleased the RMV has decided to reinstate a reminder service to the drivers of the Bay State,” said Representative Jones. “I was disappointed when the state decided to eliminate the mailing of license renewal notices, but am glad residents will still receive reminders they have grown to depend on.”

In order to be eligible for notification, a customer must sign up for the service at least 45 days prior to the expiration of their driver's license or MA ID. They will receive an electronic message by the method of their choosing at least 30 days before the expiration date which will inform the customer whether they can renew their license or MA ID online or must visit a branch.

Customers will also be notified if their license is in non-renew status because of an outstanding parking ticket or excise bill that must be resolved before they can renew.

To sign up for the new service, customers should visit www.mass.gov/rmv and choose what method they want to be notified by. The service will be free of charge and is sponsored by Massachusetts businesses.
